the problem submission tool
The problem-based learning tool is an administrative   tool.   It provides the means for a teacher to set up a framework for receiving and managing student problem submissions.   The tool provides the functionality for a teacher to be able to specify the problems, due dates and marking criteria.   It enables students to submit, teachers to mark and retains electronic copies of the submissions.

The tool has a number extra features such as a mail-out, marks recording and data export. Teachers of large cohorts can use the system to manage the submission and assessment of large numbers of students and to quality assure the process.

Problem-based learning provides opportunities for teachers to organize their programs around tasks and problems.   In these settings, learners are engaged in inquiries and investigations and learn through the process of exploration.   The strategy provides a means to present courses where the content and information is made meaningful and applicable by having students engage with the content through explorations and investigations.

There are many forms of problem-based learning with the main variation coming from the types of problems being solved and the levels of support provided.   In some settings students attempt large-scale problems and the whole course is based around the solution, often involving learners working in teams.   I other settings learners are required to solve a variety of problems, each of which requires a degree of strategy and higher-order thinking.

- Use problems that require students to apply the content and information presented in the course
-Problems can be of many different types, some can be solved by following procedures, others can be solved by investigating similar cases and the really hard problems require creativity and higher -order thinking
- Break the course into modules and assess the students' learning by their success in solving problems which require them to understand and apply the knowledge
- Get students to work in teams to solve problems.   By requiring students to work in teams they can be given larger problems and can develop a range of other important skills such as teamwork and collaboration.
