the filespace tool
The Filespace (file sharing too) is another a very simple tool to build and use. It provides students with a group Webspace into which they can post files for sharing. It adds a file upload and download feature to a bulletin board.
The filesharing tool only shares a few file formats. These are Word documents, pdf files, zip files and jpg, gif images.

Here is a sample filesharing activity that you can explore to see how the tool works. |
file sharing as a learning activity
File sharing is a form of collaborative activity. The tool can be used to enable students to share their work with others in their class (or group). Sharing can be used to encourage students to review others' work, to critique and to practice other forms of higher order thinking.
File sharing also provides the facility for students to publish their work. When students know their work is to be published, they are encouraged to ensure it is of a standard they will be happy with.

some teaching ideas
• In project work students can post a copy of their work to gain feedback
• A single document can be posted by a teacher. Students, in turn can then edit and amend the work and repost it. The final copy can be compared to the original file (and all the revisions)
• Students can be required to post their work to the public space as a published item
• Be sure to use groups and passwords if the work is sensitive or its intellectual property is to be preserved.
